Only William Finn could get away with rhyming "elbow" with "hell no." Jerry Herman would have been majorly read for doing so.

Only William Finn could get away with these characters: the beleaguered victim/hero, his it's-all-about-me mother and ne'er-do-well dreamer father, his well-meaning but distant boyfriend, his boo-hiss boss, his in-therapy female friend, and his fat-people-are-jolly nurse. And Apple Annie is about to show up.

I just played this song for my students because were talking about telling time and they didn't know what "a quarter to" means. In the lyrics, "love begins at 8:45, the stars are gonna twinkle and shine this evening around a quarter to 9."

I think this song is so underrated in comparison to all the other greats in this musical. First time I saw this song I had a migraine (it was also the movie version, which is just as good listen to it rn) but I was immediately like LET ME IN LET ME DANCE WATCH ME SPECTACULARLY FAIL AND NOT CARE AT ALL. And now I know that Race leads this song, which makes me love it all the more.

This show is simply, my theatre lifeblood. This musical (and actually the movie version first) and my families influence are the pure reason I joined theatre. This musical simply is my dream musical. In every number, the guys sound like they're having so much fun. They are livin the high life. The bonds that form between these guys is so awesome. Every number in both versions is a masterpiece. I recently got tickets to watch this show in person and I am SO FRICKIN FUDGIN EXCITED (THEATRE PEOPLE YOU KNOW HOW IT IS). But anyways, seriously, this is single show that I want to be a role in so much.

I do have to leave the comment that you should also listen (and most definetely watch) the film version. To those of you know who know, you know.

I randomly remembered that song and how much I liked it.

They made a theater show about this in Finland and I had the honor to help make the props and see the practice for it all from beginning until the premiere

Crying, laughing, thinking of all the times I laid down on the shag carpet, put on the headphones, and laid this beautiful vinyl under the needle.

Doubt this comment will be seen but, 24 year old here reminiscing singing this and other songs in the car driving places. My mother had an amazing voice.
